- What is the best accounting software in South Africa?
- There is no single best option for every business. Xero and Sage Business Cloud are widely used for ledgers and VAT in South Africa. QuickBooks Online, Zoho Books and Pastel (Sage 50cloud) are also real products — check each vendor for current ZAR pricing. BizAI Smart CRM is not accounting software. It is customer relationship management from R599/mo ex VAT with WhatsApp on one number. If you use Xero or Zoho for books, you keep that ledger. BizAI sits alongside Sage with a native integration as described on this page.
- Can I use Excel as accounting software?
- A spreadsheet can track income and expenses, but it is not a VAT201 submission system and does not replace a proper ledger for SARS compliance. Most SA SMEs outgrow Excel when they need bank reconciliation, VAT returns and audit-ready records. Check Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Zoho Books or Pastel for tools built for that. BizAI Smart CRM is not the books — it manages customers and deals, not your general ledger.

- What is the difference between Sage Business Cloud and Pastel?
- Both are Sage products. Sage Business Cloud Accounting is the cloud subscription most new SA businesses start with — check sage.com/en-za for current ZAR pricing. Pastel (Sage 50cloud) is Sage's established desktop-oriented line, often used where inventory and job costing are complex — check Sage for ZAR pricing. BizAI is not Sage. BizAI Smart CRM has a native Sage integration: customer records, invoices and payment status sync between BizAI and Sage accounting automatically.
- Does BizAI replace Xero?
- No. BizAI Smart CRM does not replace Xero or any other accounting ledger. If you use Xero for your books, keep Xero.
